Privacy Policy

This app teaches the Siargaonon (Surigaonon) language. This page explains, in plain language, exactly what information the app handles and why. If anything here is unclear, just email and ask.

What the app collects

• Account details. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, profile picture, and a unique account ID. Signing in is optional — Level 1 works without an account.
• Learning progress. Your XP, which cards you've seen, quiz statistics, streaks, and trophies. This is what lets your progress follow you between devices.
• Your conversation with Coco. The last 40 messages of your chat with the AI tutor are saved to your account so it is still there when you come back. You can clear it any time with the bin icon in the tutor.
• Purchase records. Which items you've unlocked (levels, ad removal, supporter status), stored as simple true/false flags against your account.
• A display name, if you choose one. The nickname you pick in the app. Unlike everything above, this one can be published — see the leaderboard section below.

What the app does not collect

• Payment details. Card and PayPal credentials are entered on PayPal's own systems and are never seen by, or sent to, this app.
• Your location, contacts, photos, or camera. The app never requests access to any of these.
• The microphone is the exception. It is used only if you choose to record yourself practising a word, and your browser asks permission first. Those recordings stay on your device. They are only uploaded if you are a moderator recording audio for the dictionary itself.
• Anything you type into quizzes. Answers are checked on your device and are never transmitted or stored.

Services the app relies on

• Google Firebase — handles sign-in and stores your progress and unlocks.
• PayPal — processes payments. They confirm to us only that a payment succeeded, and for which item.
• Google AdSense — shows ads to users who haven't removed them. Google may use cookies to personalise ads; you can control this at Google Ad Settings.
• Google Gemini — powers the “Talk with Coco” tutor. What you type to Coco is sent to Google’s AI service to generate a reply, along with the app’s own verified word list. Don’t type anything private into it. If Gemini is unavailable, Anthropic’s Claude is used as a fallback in the same way.
• Google Analytics — counts visits and which pages are read, so it is possible to tell whether anyone is using the site. It records pages, approximate country, and device type — not names or accounts.
• ElevenLabs — generates the pronunciation audio. Only the app's own fixed list of Siargaonon phrases is ever sent; no user information is included.
• Netlify — hosts the site and, like any web host, records standard server request logs.

Daily reminders

If you turn on daily practice reminders, your browser creates an anonymous subscription and it is stored so the reminder can be sent at the hour you chose. It contains no name or email, and turning reminders off deletes it.

Storage on your device

The app saves your progress locally so it works offline and loads quickly. Clearing your browser data for this site erases that local copy; if you're signed in, your progress is restored from your account next time you sign in.

Your choices

• Use it without an account. Level 1 requires no sign-in at all.
• Sign out to remove your progress and unlocks from that device.
• Leave the leaderboard at any time from the dashboard toggle. Your published entry is deleted, not just frozen.
• Delete your data. Email the address below and your account, progress, and records will be deleted.
• Ask what's stored. Email and you'll be sent a copy of what's held against your account.

The public leaderboard

The app shows top learners for the day, week, and month. This is the only part of the app where information about you is visible to other people, so it is worth being precise about it.

What is published: the display name you chose, and how much XP you earned in the current day, week, and month. Nothing else. Your email address, your Google profile, your quiz statistics, your conversations with Coco, and what you have purchased are never published.

You are added automatically once you earn XP while signed in. If you have not picked a display name yet, a neutral placeholder such as “Learner 4f2a” is used — your real name and your Google profile name are never published unless you type one in yourself.

You can leave at any time. The toggle at the bottom of the dashboard removes you from the board and deletes your published entry immediately, not just hides it. Signing out also stops any further publishing from that device.

Because the board is public, treat the display name as public too — use whatever you are comfortable with strangers seeing, and there is no need for it to be your real name.

Data sharing

Your information is never sold, rented, or handed to advertisers or data brokers. It is shared only with the services listed above, strictly so the app can function — and, if you opt in, the display name and XP totals shown on the leaderboard.

Changes & contact

If this policy changes materially, the update will be announced in the app's Updates panel and the effective date will change.
